Press Release from MLB Pressbox
June 10, 2005
As part of its ongoing commitment to help make a positive impact in the lives of
children throughout the global community, Major League Baseball is lending
support to the International Kids Fund through a series of visits by Major
League Baseball players to Holtz Children's Hospital at the Miami/Jackson
Memorial Medical Center in Miami, Fla.
On Friday, June 10 at noon (EST), the Florida Marlins' Carlos Delgado, the Texas Rangers' Joaquin Benoit and Marlins mascot Billy the Marlin are scheduled to visit Holtz Children's Hospital to help raise the spirits of critically ill children. The youth, primarily from Latin America and the Caribbean, suffer from serious illnesses that cannot be treated in their countries of origin.
The visit to Holtz Children's Hospital, one of the top-rated pediatric hospitals in the nation, is part of the ongoing commitment of Major League Baseball and the Florida Marlins to the International Kids Fund (IKF), a program of the Jackson Memorial Foundation. Throughout the baseball season, Florida Marlins players and players from visiting Major League Clubs will visit the Holtz Children's Hospital. The program is a joint initiative between Major League Baseball and the Florida Marlins with support from Fox Sports en Español.
The International Kids Fund (IKF) at Holtz Children's Hospital, a program of the Jackson Memorial Foundation, seeks to provide medical care to needy children from Latin America and the Caribbean who suffer from life-threatening illnesses that cannot be treated in their home countries. The fund ensures critically ill children receive the best care possible at Holtz Children's Hospital of the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, one of the nation's premier teaching hospitals, regardless of their ability to pay. To date, more than 125 children have received critical surgery, life-saving treatments and essential medical care through IKF.
